I thought I read somewhere before that this was NOT safe, but since it is made by Diono would it be considered okay to use?

I have always heard that they are NOT safe, but a friend was insisting that it was ok to use b/c he daughter is in a Radian and this product is made by Diono. Thanks for the link, I will pass that on to her.

They say it's safe. They insist it's safe. However it is not.
Least of this is that you can damage seat belt by ratcheting it too tight. It's better to learn how to install a seat correctly.

Diono says that if you use it with their seat it has been tested and it's ok.

However, I've never seen one *properly* used, they're always overused, and it's not being used with the seat, it's being used with the seatbelt. It's like a non standard locking clip used on the wrong side on steroids.

Right. It's not really a car seat accessory, it's a seat belt accessory.

The people you'd need to get "approval" from to use it safely would be the manufacturers of your vehicle. It attaches to the seat belt, not the child restraint.

In theory it can probably be used safely and might maybe be OK if you had an extenuating reason such as maybe only having one hand and only having two fingers on that hand so you can't tighten a car seat using the normal methods. But even then you'd have to be really careful.

I'm sure it passes the tests Diono does because (1) they know how to use it without over-tightening and (2) It's installed, tested, and removed. It's not left on the seat belt for extended periods of time which cause the seat belt to break down, either in the webbing or at the retractor.

Plus, it's totally unnecessary. It really isn't difficult to properly tighten a seat belt.

Just from a real life experience - I wrecked a seat belt with one years ago before I knew better. Seat belt would no longer ratchet or retract and honestly the belt looked stretched. Replacing seat belts can be quite costly. Stay far far away!
