Removing smoke smell from cover

Since I think this question will be missed in my other thread, anyone know of a good washing machine additive to remove a faint cigarette smoke smell from a cover? I normally use ALL free and clear.

And for those who may be upset for me about the smell I did give them the seat to keep and she did quite long before she took it. The smell still exists in the car though.

Put it in the washer in hot water on soak with a scented detergent like tide. When it's done do an extra spin cycle and then wash again like you normally would. It's what I do for the seats that are in dh's car and I've never had a problem getting the smell out.

Baking soda! in warm water. I got some of M's clothes back from a friend and eek. The baking soda did wonders, though. I followed with just my regular detergent cycle and can't smell a thing (and I have a bloodhound nose.)

let it air out for a couple of days outside in the sun. warm soak and wash with baking soda. then wash regular cycle with your usual detergent. if you have a front loader which allows extra water, push that setting's button so maximum amount of water swishes around. repeat if necessary.

(if you normally use unscented detergent, i'd avoid scented ones. i'm currently trying to remove the detergent scent from some hand-me-down kid clothes, and it's been a slow work-in-progress.)

When we get back from camping our towels reek like cigarette and campfire smoke. We wash them twice in hot water with baking soda and they smell brand new.

After washing I would hang it outside and lightly spray with 50/50 vinegar & water solution. I use vinegar and water to "Febreze" lots of things and it works great.

I just bought a cover that had "smoke damage" I believe the person just washed it like you would normally wash it. No problems. I don't believe smoke stays in items regularly washed. Maybe in furniture, cars, rugs, things like that, but as for car seat covers and clothes a normal wash is enough.

I washed it twice on gentle one load cold with regular detergent and oxyclean, then warm with just oxyclean. I almost washed it again to get the detergent smell out but drying on a chair all weekend seemed to help with that.

Thank you everyone!
Due to skin allergies I'm starting with Baking Soda and my detergent. If that's not enough I'll move on to Tide. It's been awhile so I don't know if she'll still react. However, sitting in front of an open window for the past few warms days seems to have helped quite a bit.
