EFTA hard to loosen

I have my EFTA installed passenger outboard in a Matrix. I usually keep the harness tight and just unbuckle DD2 and take her out of the tight harness. But sometimes she's wearing something thinner and I need to tighten the harness. And then we're back to thicker clothes and I need to loosen the harness. And I can't! I cannot push down that red tab thing and get the harness to disengage! I have to try it several times and sometimes it never works and other times it does work.

Is this common? Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

I had the seat in the house the other day and had a theory about the harness locking when it was buckled, but then it seemed to loosen although it was buckled, so I don't know.

Should I call Evenflo?

For the first time this weekend I couldn't loosen the harness the first time I pressed on the tab. I grabbed the harness at the hip and tugged on it then I pushed the tab again and it loosened.

I remember having trouble with the one on my Bolero. I think I just used the other side or I had to move it back and forth a bit or something. Now that I think of it, maybe those aren't the safest thing.

I've found w/both the EF's I've had, that sometimes you have to give the harness a little tug to get it to roll back that retractor...and then push the knob. Mine has never gotten "stuck" where I couldn't get it to work, but I have often had to do that little trick. Seems okay to me.
