How far bove can the strap be for FFing?

I am still replacing seats from dh's crash, and shuffling them around, lol. I would like to be able to put one seat in my parents' car that both kids could use. This will be the only seat my dd rides FFing in. I thought I was settled on an Argos, since the harness can be adjusted without rethreading it. But the maestro fits in the vehicle width-wise so much better, and leaves room for adults to comfortably sit on either side of the seat. If I go with the Maestro, and set the straps for ds, they are quite a ways higher than dd's shoulders - almost two slots different. How much above the shoulders is ok, or do I really need to go with something that can be adjusted?

Sorry the pics are blurry, crappy cell phone quality. In one pic, you can see two empty slots - her shouders are actually just a hair above that slot

I don't know if it's okay tech wise. But I would not be comfortable with that.

Thank you everyone. This will make it much easier. (of course, big brother is less than thrilled about HER sitting in HIS seat )

:scratcheshead: Not to be a sh*t disturber, but wasn't there another thread recently about this same topic and the consensus was that it was NOT ok for the straps to be so high above the shoulders?

I may be way off base, but I believe the other seats manual specified that the straps be at the shoulder or in the closest slot above. Most of the time, above..even far above, is okay.

OK, I thought it was like that with all the seats (at or closet slot above). Thanks for clarifying. :)

IIRC the problem in the other post was the safe stop in the Radian as well as the straps being high. I believe one child was over 40 lbs and one child under.

It's not ideal, but it's safe, and it's what was the norm 10 years ago when only the top slot was reinforced for forward facing.
