Hi all,

I have been looking for a 5 point harness booster seat that will work with belt installation in the center position in a 2006 Subaru Outback. I finally found one that works well so I thought that I would post it here.

The Recaro Prosport Combination Car Seat is the first seat 5 point harness booster seat that I have found that installs easily in the center position of a 2006 Subaru Outback. The belt path is much higher than any of the other 5 point harness booster seats which allows it to work well with the annoyingly long seat belts stalks in the center position.

This should also work with all of the following model years.

2005 Subaru Outback
2006 Subaru Outback
2007 Subaru Outback
2008 Subaru Outback
2009 Subaru Outback

Here is what did not work.

Britax Frontier 85 - long belt path would have worked had the belt been long enough. The long seat belt stalks interfered with short belt path.

Trendz Fastback - As others have mentioned, it was impossible to get a good fit with this model even though the seat belt path was high enough to accommodate the long seat belt stalks.

Here is what barely worked.

Graco Nautilus Elite - With 3 stalk twists and using built-in seat belt clip on the elite version, it was possible to get a pretty good fit. However, the part of the seat belt that inserts into the stalk was right on the edge of the belt path from where it goes from vertical to horizontal. My understanding is that you want it to be completely flat whether is is horizontal or vertical. This always made me a little bit nervous.

I hope this helps. This is where I always ended up when I was trying to find a seat so I wanted to contribute this information to all of those other Subaru Outback owners who were flummoxed by Subaru's inhospitable center position.

BTW I did have to twist the seat belt stalk. I might have been able to get away with 2 twists but the buckle was just touching the where the belt path goes horizontal so I twisted the stalk 3 times which I understand is the maximum allowable.
