so i've been looking around and i found a list of the safest cars for 2012, but i wanted to get some actual drivers' thoughts on the cars instead of just the tests and i wanted to narrow down the list a bit. any opinions on the safest car for 2012?

It's hard to give an opinion, since car safety is primarily based on data (crash tests and loss data).

My research indicates (per informed for life) that the safest is:

Mid size GM crossover (Traverse, etc...)

I would have guessed E Class Mercedes, but apparently that would have been wrong.

I'm guessing this one?

"2013 Lexus GS earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award

The GS, a large luxury car redesigned for the 2013 model year, earns the Institute's top award for good performance in front, side, rollover, and rear impact evaluations."

I doubt many people have accidentally crashed 2012 vehicles yet ;)

Or this one:

"2013 Mazda CX-5 earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award"

Or this one:

"2012 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award"

Or this one.....

"Nissan Versa sedan earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award"

Ok, maybe that wasnt' so helpful, LOL

There are also the government crash tests that are equally important. Not too many vehicles get an IIHS Top Safety Pick award in addition to a 5-star overall government rating. The Buick Enclave (and the identical Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia) and Honda Odyssey are two examples we have reviewed at Carseatblog.com.

I would rank those two models as among the very safest of many extremely safe vehicles on the road today.
