I was in the car seat aisle at Target(shocking, I know) and there was a set of grandparents looking completely confused and staring at seats. So, I approached them, gave them my card, and asked if I could help them pick out a seat. They were very relieved, and told me they needed a seat ASAP for their 12 month old grandson because they had to pick him up from daycare that afternoon, and he no longer fit in his infant seat.

Of course, I immediately suggested a RF seat, and grandma looked at me like I was off my rocker, and said that making him RF was "cruel." I explained the AAP stance, major benefits, etc. I asked them to do some research before making a final decision. Grandpa was REALLY receptive, and kept saying, "Yeah, I think he needs to stay RF longer." Grandma, however, was completely unconvinced, and kept rolling her eyes. She was definitely not convinced.

So, what would you do in that situation when helping them choose a seat? Recommend a convertible(they were leaning toward the Cosco Apt and had a small budget) in hopes that they will do the research and keep the kid RF? My fear with that seat is that the kid will outgrow it around age 3 and then be put right into a booster. Or, suggest a combination seat like the Maestro so that the kid will stay harnessed longer and not boostered prematurely, but RF would not be an option?

Rear facing seat. That way when the research is done they can turn him back around.

OK, I feel better now. I steered them toward a convertible, but second guessed myself later. There were no Sceneras in stock, and they had already been to WalMart, where there was nothing in stock. The Apt was the only one in stock in their price range. They have a Costco membership, so I also suggested the Safety First Air Protect.

The "air protect" is the name of their technology, and is on their infant seats, convertibles, combinations, and boosters. The onSide Air and Complete Air are their convertible carseats.
