*humph* Regent and Height

I just measured my son and he is 52 inches.... In the seat he looks to have plenty of room left. Maybe he is all legs. So even though he is not to the top slots and appears to have plenty of growing room.... in one more inch I gotta move him to a booster?

*** 7/1/08***Just checking on this question again. The Regent manual clearly states 53 inch max... DS is officially over 53 inches now. He has been in a Booster for a couple months now but we are taking a long road trip so I am thinking about putting him back in the regent for the road trip...

what say you?

Most height guidelines on car seats are just estimates as some kids carry their height in their legs while others carry their hight in their torso. Weight is a much more firm issue on seats. I would never use a seat passed the weight limit on the seat, but as long as my child didn't meet the "shoulders going past the top slot" or "ears extending past the top of the seat", I would not be concerned with the height requirement on a seat.

I have a regant and I will not base my child's height on when she has to stop using the seat. When her shoulders extend past the top slot or her ears reach the top of the seat, we will move her to another seat, but not until then (unless of course she gains a lot of weight and outgrows the seat weight wise first).

Nope... on ffing seats, height is just a guideline. As long as the top slots are at or above his shoulders, the tips of his ears are under the seatback and he is under the weight limit, he can continue to use the seat, no matter what his overall height is.

*doing a happy dance*... Yup he is not in the top slot and his ears are not up very high yet and he is only 63 #'s. So I think we can get more time. He grew 2 inches since I bought the seat this year. Hopefully no more growth spurts for a while. The maturity is just not there yet for a booster.

Same as before. As long as he's under the weight limit and his shoulders aren't over the top slot and his ears are below the seat back he fits.

The companies have to put something on the box and Britax now lists seated height as well for an additional guideline.

Honestly, I am totally fine making the parental decision to use a seat beyond the stated height limit as long as the child has the necessary head protection (at least up to the tops of the ears) and the shoulders are not over the top slots. I'd choose to use the Regent for the road trip, above 53", as long as the tops of the ears are below the top of the carseat shell and shoulders are not over the top slots (and he's below the weight limit, obviously :p ).
