Most comfortable angle?

What's the most comfortable angle rear facing for an 8 month old? For a 3 year old? Assume both awake and sleeping. We'll be driving cross country with 12-14 hour on the car each day, I want them to be comfy. The infant is still in the carrier so I could adjust the angle throughout the day.

Both of my kids (12 mo and 3.5 years) are installed at about 40 degrees, and both end up with head slump every time they fall asleep.
