I finally called Cosco about the Scenera

I put it in the van last night so I could wash the MA cover and the tether strap is too short to reach our hooks. I called hoping they would offer me a free longer strap, like Evenflo does. Nope, $5.?? to get a tether extender. Then I asked about strap covers, they MIGHT have teal or blue available but no brown to match my seat. I told her "No thanks." on both. I'll move the seat back to dh's car this evening and tether it to a seatbelt if I have to use it in the van. I'm bummed, but for a $35 seat I really can't complain.

Yeah, I was willing to pay for official Cosco strap covers as I did buy the bear bones seat, but they should make it fit in my van for free. There is no excuse for tether straps that don't reach the anchors!

I continue my parental decision to use Graco covers on the seat, a strap cover is a strap cover and the ones I'm using have been crash tested on Graco seats.

This is definitely an area where parental decision comes into play, but it's not one I would suggest others make. Graco explicitly says not to use their strap covers on the SS1. Given that statement, I'd also be hesitant to use them on other car seats. Who knows if it's just that they haven't been tested with the SS1 or if it causes a problem with standards compliance, but it's not a decision I'd be comfy making. :twocents:

My covers were only approved for use on their convertable and combo seats, not for infant seats. I think they are too long to use on an infant and keep the chest clip where it belongs. I would not use them on an infant in any seat because they would push the chest clip too low.

I have them on backwards, so the velcro part is facing out, rather than under the strap, so there is just a very thin layer of fleece between my dd and the harness. It is less than if she wore a sweatshirt in her seat. I feel comfortable with my decision as I can see no way that they interfere with the harness any more that the ones Cosco sells. It is a parental decision and I would not tell another parent to do this, but I feel fine with it.
