Keep in mind, ladies (I just learned this today) When buying a carseat and when they say that it's got a weight limit over 65lbs FF with a harness (Some new ones have 70+lbs) that they are NOT TESTED by the standards of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. (Yet)

? i am not familiar with this...

I think the dummy is 65 lbs. I think. I have seen some mention. I don't know if that translates to "not tested."

http://www.nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Pr...ew+'10-Year-Old+Child'+Crash+Test+Dummy.print

Quote: "The final rule issued by NHTSA today amends the current federal child safety seat standard to include car seats and boosters specified for children weighing more than 65 pounds and up to 80 pounds."

It may not be finalized / official yet... Article from 21 Feb.

ETA: Prior to that, no standards existed for more than 65 lbs. Does not mean not tested, just no standards exist, so they (presumably) test that higher weight using the standards for G's, acceleration, etc, from the 65 lb standard.

The current version of FMVSS 213 applies to seats with a weight rating of up to 65 pounds. The largest dummy used is 62-63 pounds. This applies to all seats, harnessed or booster. The quote implies that it's only harnesses, but it's both harnesses and boosters.

The new version, which has been finalized, goes into effect two years from now and will cover seats with weight limits up to 80 pounds. The largest dummy used will be 78(?) pounds.

So, the current Frontier was tested in the US w/ a 62# dummy, but is approved to 85# (now) and soon will be tested w/ a heavier dummy (78#), but still approved to 85#, right?

And, the same would be true w/ the Monterey and Parkway, right?

Interesting...

Even more interesting that the Frontier here in Canada only has harness to 65# b/c the definition of child used as a legal term only goes to 65#, up from 47# a few years back! LOL

Even more interesting is the Evenflo Maestro has harness there until 50#, but here only 47#, for no reason I've ever figured out...

Right, the Frontier85 has an 85 pound weight limit in harnessed mode and is tested with a 62 pound dummy. The Frontier85 has a 120 pound weight limit in booster mode and is tested with a 62 pound dummy. The Parkway and Monterey both have 120 pound weight limits and are tested with a 62 pound dummy.

Until now, we haven't had a larger dummy that was reliable to do testing with.
