Question Own Britax Roundabout -- should I upgrade to Britax Advocate 70CS?

Hello all!

I have a Britax Roundabout (not the 55 -- just a plain Roundabout). Used it for my first son -- not accidents, it is in good condition. I live somewhere were people drive crazy and really fast (tailgating, speeding and just plain crazy). My partner also has a problem with never making the seat belt tight enough. My car is a 2004 Subaru Forester with no rear side air-bags. I believe in rear-facing as long as possible. Should I buy a Britax Advocate 70CS for my primary car or should I continue to use the Roundabout?

Don't really want to spend the money, but if it is that much safer I will.

Thanks for any and all advice.

If you want to ERF and want a new seat I would look for a non-britax seat. Britax is skimpy with the leg room when RF.

I am not an expert by any means but I think the top tier Britax seats are a bit over-hyped... and the CS seems to not work very amazingly based on reviews.

How long till the roundabout expires? Is using it till it expires and then buying a new seat an option? I don't think you need to jump on a new seat for safety reasons.

Agree that Britax seats are not the most recommended for extended rear-facing -- there are other seats with taller shells (the new seats are shorter than the Classic seats) and more leg room.

But the safest thing you can do, and it's absolutely free, is to make sure that the seat is solidly installed and the harness tightened every single time. If your partner won't do it, then you do it.

How old is your child, and how long until their head reach 1" from the top of the shell? If you have a tiny child who will make it to three in the Roundabout rear facing, then no. If you have a huge child, then it'll be outgrown soon and the Advocate with it's relatively short shell would be a waste of money.

What is a budget you're comfortable with for a new seat? The Advocate is about the least cost effective seat out there, so no point spending the money on it if you're on a tight budget. Britax is not safer than other brands.

Dear all!

Thanks so much. You guys are amazing! He is only 14 months so he has a long time left in the Roundabout -- height and weigh-wise. I will check the expiration date, but I think there is more than enough time left remaining.

I was just getting drawn to the shiny and new. I will save my pennies and get a good next seat.

Thanks again and have a great day!
