I stumbled upon this pic. It's from an Amazon page for a power inverter. Judging by the movie, it's gotta be nearly 10 years old. I guess this is what you were supposed to do before headrest DVD players were invented. :ROTFLMAO:

I remember seeing this all the time about ten years ago! People would rig up all sorts of nonsense, usually a huge tv wedged between the front seats, bungee cords everywhere, cords everywhere, a total mess.

Eta: looks at those mushroom haircuts! :p

My parents used to do that! It scares me to think what would have happened with that TV had we been in an accident!

I grew up watching a tv like that in the back of a van when we traveled (we traveled long distances frequently)!

My parents used to do that when we were traveling long distances. I also remember laying down on the bench seat with the lap only belt around my waist.

I know we used to travel with a small TV when we were younger, but on longer trips. I have had an inverter for my laptop while traveling with my parents.

We had gameboys for long trips. Of course, these were the black and white ones with no back light, so once it got dark we were SOL. :p

Wow, We were just made to watch the scenery. For long trips "several that were 8+hours" We brought extra pillows and I'd stick them in the floor board grab me a blanket and sleep down there and my "OLDER" Sister had the actual seat to lay in... When I was with my cousins, we'd just play games in the back seat the whole time we were driving, usually on trips to columbus, oh. (almost 3hours away).

Oooooh... I did that back in 2000 for a drive from CA to TX. My kid had that haircut, no less :D. I took a super long VCR tape and put like 8 hours of nick jr and sesame street on it. (I often think I'm driving a time machine now with my 2003 Ody, I still have all the old DVD's in there the big kids watched....like Stewart Little, lol)

This! We didn't have gameboys, let alone a tv. I got terrible motion sickness, so reading was totally out of the question. We would sleep laying across the seats and floorboard, too. In the grandparents' station wagon, we would all play in the cargo area. Yikes!

We weren't allowed to have a TV in the car. Even on our LONG car trips all around the US, we were not allowed to have a TV. Granted, we also couldn't have a TV in our rooms. :p

We weren't even allowed to listen to our own personal walkmans. We listened to "family" music and played games with each other. Bonding. :p

Yup, we did that all the time. Sometimes we would take turns holding it if we couldn't find anywhere to put it.

We never had a tv in the car. For long trips we got to listen to our walkmans, read books, or look out the window.

When we were younger, my mom would pack us special little trip bags with things to do. We weren't allowed to touch them until at least an hour or two away. We would drive from Oregon to California every other year. We have 5 girls in my family. We were all born within 6 years. So all very close in age. My parents would usually leave about 6 or 7 after dinner and then drive all night long so that we had minimal amount of awake time in the car. Saved their sanity I think! We had one game boy that we all shared. Never a movie in the car. I think learning how to entertain ourselves made us better, more patient car riders.
