So I know that it is not recommended to install a booster using LATCH (I understand the 48 lb weight limit on the lower anchors) but I wonder if there is a rationale for not tethering them. I ask because I read that one of the advantages of the Body Guard is that the lock offs keep the booster secured to the car decreasing "inertia" on the child's body. This got me wondering. When adults sit in a seat with a belt, our seats remain fixed in position and the belts hold us in once they lock. Perhaps I am forgetting something, but it would seem like a good thing for the booster to be anchored to the vehicle in some way. I also know that dedicated boosters have weight limits and the tehter strap and hook would add weight, so I wonder if this is a problem with the regulations...

Well, when they tested some early seat designs with latch, namely a backless booster with ridgid latch, the dummy actually slid off the booster and the belt rode up onto the abdomen. IRL, that's not happening with flexible latch and highback boosters. The Airway is an extremely light seat, and it allows the latch and tether to stay on, because it doesn't go over the weight limit when they are still on the seat.
I think (just thinking here) that Britaxes fancy wordage of "decreasing the inertia load" is just their way of saying, "we are breaking regulations with this seat, and had to come up with a solution to make it legal"
Maybe it's actually better if the seat is not attached to the car, so that it rides out in unison with the child's body during a crash? I don't know...just thinking some more, there....
