I broke my switchable retractor.....

I guess 5 years installing seats really tight was too much for it. It is the middle row seat behind the driver of my 2004 sienna. When I try to pull the seat belt out it locks up and won't go any further. Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas on how to fix it? How much does it cost to replace a seat belt? I don't have to take 8 in my van very often but it does happen occasionally and Elizabeth is 50 lbs so can't use the latch in that spot.

Thanks!

Unman, I paid $80 to get three buckles plus on lap belt only, but we were able to do it ourselves. I think with a shoulder lap belt you would need a mechanic to do it. I did find out going through the dealership was a lot cheaper to get the parts. The one auto store I called they wanted double and it was some generic brand, not the original parts.

I had the same thing happen luckily one of my daycare parents is a mechanic. But I still paid $250 for the belt. It would have been another $150 for install.

One of our retractors broke and we just got the retractor replaced, not the whole belt. I don't recall exactly how much it was.

I would call the dealer, that seems like something that they should replace for free. You were using it according to their directions and haven't been in a wreck, right?

Sent from my iPhone, please excuse my typos.

Toyota has a 10 year warranty on seat belts. That being said, it soulnds to me like there is something stuck in the retractor. Usually, when they break they either freeze in place or refuse to lock at all.

If you have to use that seat in the meantime, you can use a belt shortening clip and a harnessed seat.

Thanks all, I'll take it in hopefully next week. I can use the latch in the spot but can't use the seat belt at all, it locks up completely after I pull it out about 10 inches or so.
