The case strikes a bit close to home for me because DD1's first carseat was an Evenflo On My Way.

Evenflo hit with $10M car seat verdict

A jury has ordered child safety seat maker Evenflo Co. to pay $10.4 million to the parents of a 4-month-old boy who died of head injuries in a car crash.

Evenflo had considered and then decided against lining the shell of the "On My Way" car seats with foam. He also told jurors Tyler's seat was ejected from the vehicle because a hook broke loose from the seat and there had been five similar instances.

That is scarey

That is just terrible. I feel for that family.

The article makes it sound like the jury based it's findings on the seat not having any foam, not that the hook broke. If that's the case, it probably was the child hitting their head on a door or the ground that was at cause. I can't imagine some foam helping in that aspect. Now, if they were suing based on the base breaking, then, yeah, Evenflo is definitely liable.

I think it's a combination of the hooks breaking and lack of foam. If the seat was going to be ejected from the vehicle, maybe he would have survived if there had been something other than hard plastic surrounding his head.

Poor, poor family.

They have $10.4 million, but I know they would give it all back in a heartbeat if they could have their son back in their arms.

I'm glad the jury decided this way. The only way carseat manufacturers are going to really put safety first is if there is a financial incentive to do so.

I'm glad to see EvilFlo nailed like that. Hopefully they'll start thinking more about our kids than their bottom line after that verdict. One can only hope...

Ohhh thats a good name!! Usually I call them EvenS*** seats. I'm allowed to say that, I had a "portabout" for DDs infant seat and I hated it with a passion. I didn't know any better and now I could kick myself in the butt b/c it was such a horrid seat.

Poor Baby.

I can't imagine losing a child like that. I love EvenS***s defense though. Of course it's the doors fault.

I'm so glad they got hit with that and I really hope that a judge doesn't rule in favor of EF when they make their appeal.
