Has anyone owned a 97 Oldsmobile Silloute (sp)? We are thinking of buying one for a second vehicle. My grandpa is going to have one for sell soon, he thinks b/t $3000-4000. I know it is one of the more upgraded models, with leather and dual power sliding doors. He says it's in excellent condition and he can find nothing wrong with it besides some door damage he is currently having repaired/repainted. It has right about 100K. Would this be worth it? If this seems to be a nice van... we might consider selling my car (04 Highlander) just to get out of making payments right now while DH is unemployed and money is very tight.
Opinions, please!
Dual power sliding doors? I didn't think that was an option at the time; my 98 Olds has dual sliding doors but only the passenger side door is powered.
I will tell you two true things:
1 - I loved it (until it blew its head gasket and also had transmission problems, at 125k miles; it's not really worth repairing, especially if one is looking for an excuse not to repair it because of... see #2)
2 - The IIHS safety results scare the crap out of me.

Because it's What We Had (my parents handed it down to us), and was
such a comfortable, functional, ideal vehicle otherwise, I did my best to forget about #2, kept my foot tucked close to the seat while driving, made sure my kids were as well protected by properly used seats as I could, and went on my way.
One last thing to keep in mind- there are only two tether anchor locations in the van, and they are not very convenient- they are for the middle row captains chairs and are the floor-anchors for the third row outboard seatbelts, so your strap will go across the leg-space between third and second rows and down under/to the side of the third row seats. You
can sit in the outboard 3rd row positions, but the strap will annoy you and if you are a child you will play with it. There are no tether anchors for the third row at all.
