Hard to tighten radian???

XTSL, FF, on top harness slots. DS is 36#. It's very hard to tighten. I took it out and played with it and it seems the difficulty is in the adjuster thingy. It may not help getting the safe-stop around the bend of the seat bight, but that's not the main issue.
I lowered the harness and installed it for DD instead of DS and it seems to pull MUCH easier.

(if it's not clear - hard to tighten the harness, not the installation)

What's the deal?

(admittedly not an expert of radians)

I need to do some seat shuffling. Something needs to change.

Are the headwings stopping the harness from moving freely, or slipping down over the top harness slots a bit?

yes - the headwings are touching the harness. But even when I made sure there was slack right behind the harness adjuster, it seemed difficult.

Should I call SKJP/Diono or is this just the seat being a PITA? The adjuster strap also has a tiny bit of fraying on the edges.

I find Radians to be a bit of a PITA to tighten FF. I get it as tight as I can then unbuckle the crotch and tighten it another click and rebuckle.

Thanks. The seat in in DH's car and I think that's a little too complicated for him. He'd rather I just put a different seat in there.

The radians have that ratchet pull thingie ...tug, tug, tug repeatedly instead of just pulling it tight in one smooth move. Little tug, tug, tugs until it's tight and then close the chest clip.

Mine is nearly impossible to tighten as well. My solution is to make plans to go to the gym and bulk up.

But in the mean time, I just tug. tug. tug. tug. tug. tug. tug. And curse the seat in my head the whole time. :)

(ETA: And by "tug," I mean "pull with all my might," of course.)

If your kiddo is able to do up the harness, don't adjust each time. Just get it how you want it, then have kiddo put it on and do it up. That's what I do with Matthew. He does great. I just straighten things out before he buckles. We've been doing that since 3.5. He couldn't do the crotch at first but soon learned.

I had problems with it too- I do not like Radians, can not stand them.... That is why I was so glad the Radian was in the truck when my son totaled it:rolleyes::D

I sold my XTSL because I was tired of fighting with the harness. I didnt realize it until this thread, but we never had tightening issues until DD was on the top slot. We werent using the safe stop either because DD was 45 lbs at the time.
