Hello Everyone, I wanted to let you know that my 8 year old God Son is still 5-point harnessed at 8 years old and loving it! I am a firm believer in Extended Harnessing and it all started with the Britax Husky which my now almost 13 year old outgrew at 11.9 years old. Then it was handed down do my then 6 year old God Son until it expired, and now he rides in the Regent which he absolutely LOVES! We have tried out 6 different booster seats ranging from a simple Graco turbobooster to the Britax Parkway SG but he did not like them because he could not sleep. He insisted on keeping his Regent and I am very proud of him.
How many other parents still have their older kids Extended Harnessed as we would love to see :D

Thanks have a safe weekend.

We had a regent for awhile. My then 10 year old dd who had been in a booster since she was 5, claimed it because it was so comfy. I think the regent is one of the most comfortable child restraints of all time.

My 8 year old is harnessed because he has issues in boosters.

(Here's my oldest in the regent. I know the clip is low.)

And my younger dd when she was a measly 32 pounds and 5 years.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions, my 8 year old really enjoyed knowing other kids still sit harnessed and enjoyed the photos again THANKS. So as far as a booster seat, I am hearing Recaro Probooster and Diono Monterey? Guess I have some homework to do! Next time were in BRU we will have a look and try them out. BUT for now I prefer to get all the life out of the Regent! There is nothing safer than a 5-point harness, and I am alive because of one ;) Thanks Again, this input is wonderful and will be put to use.
It's great we have such a wonderful helpful site that is very warm-family feeling, GOOD JOB EVERYBODY :D

He looks happy!
I just want to point out that I think the shoulder belt should be going over the top of the seat along the head wing instead of angled over like that. I made that mistake once when I had mine seat belt installed and I'm pretty sure that is what I was told :)
And great job with the Regent! That seat drove me nuts ;) I'm loving the ProSport for my little 5.5 year old who may actually make it to 8y and will need it with her activity level in the car.

My DD is 8.7yrs and is still harnessed. My initial goal was 9yr, then 8yr, then 8 1/2. She might actually make it to 9, if she doesn't grow anymore, lol.
I'll add a recent pic tomorrow. She does want to use the booster but not enough to give me a hard time and is content in the harness. She takes a bus to school so most people don't see her in the car seat, and the ones who do don't say anything. And almost no one here uses safety seats past a year.

Hi atsuydam, Thanks and your are CORRECT, "the shoulder belt should be going over the top of the seat along the head wing instead of angled over like that" THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out. The Regent has since been installed in the 3rd row of our Excursion as it makes the car-pools much easier BUT the shoulder belt is NOT going over the seat but instead is in the same area because the shoulder belt is not as far back as it is in the middle row of course further photos could help? This could be an interesting issue even tough the tether is of course installed or am I wrong?

Hello Hevy, I really think your DD will make the goal to 9 years old? The Regent is a behemoth seat and I love it and so does Conner! I do the car-pool one week a month and we have never had an issue with Conner getting teased at all and I pull right up in front of the school student drop off. It's actually the opposite where his friends actually want to RIDE in his seat! There are 3 other families that use Regents and one new family with a Frontier 85 so I am really excited too see the larger seats being used here. Some kids are upset about the new booster seat law for California but maybe because part if it is that they really have not rode in a comfortable car seat or booster seat? In any case, I sure hope parents STICK too the new law. THANKS for the help :D

Thanks Kac, So it sounds like mail-order for either booster seat then eh? Please tell me what advantages either booster has? I am adamant about keeping Conner 5-point harnessed until he outgrows the Regent and I think he is also BUT doing the car-pool I only have the Parkway Sg left so another booster seat would be nice preferably a HBB as your talking about ;)
THANKS so much to everybody, such great help and sharing pics of your adorable kids, Forever THANKS

A properly used booster for an appropriate aged child is just as safe as a 5 pt harness. It's not about safer at that age be child appropriateness and good and proper belt fit and child maturity.

A 4 yr old booster vs 5 pt. I think that may be an argument for safer in 5 pt. but at 8, it absolutely as safe to have child booster properly.

What happens if you position it over the side then tighten? Does it still slide down? In my van positioning it then tightening was all it needed as the corner seemed to be enough to hold it in place.

And OT but if you hit the '+' in the corner of the posts you want to reply to and then select "post reply" at the bottom of the thread you'll select many posts to quote and reply to in one post :) It just saves the serial posting.

Just out of curiosity how big is your boy? My older daughter out grew the Regent right before her 6th birthday. I thought about handing it down to my second daughter but it seemed HUGE for her! She is such a little thing.

DD is 8 years, 4 months and still in her Regent. She has about a 1/4" of torso growth before she is over the top slots. We're both hoping she makes it until June in the seat. She's just happier with her 5pt comfort, especially for the 6+ hour drives we regularly take.

Besides, digging to buckle belts in my car's back seat is misery at this point. *sigh* I'm going to miss the convenience and she'll have to sit behind the front passenger to make it possible. Yuck, I hate change.

Two of my nephews were harnessed to age 8 in the Safety First Apex 65, one nephew had a Regent hand-me-down from his older brother with special needs. He stayed in it until he was 8.5 when he requested to go to a booster full-time. After he switched I asked him what he thought. He said that the Regent was more comfortable, but he liked riding in a booster better. At first he thought the Regent was easier to buckle but he's since gotten the hang of buckling the Monterey. He rides in the 3rd row on the 40 side of a 2004 Sienna 60/40 split seat. The buckle is on a rigid stalk and it is rather short so it's a little more difficult than others. My oldest nephew with special needs is 13 and harnessed in a Roosevelt, although he doesn't have much time left in it!
