1995 Ford Escort Wagon

Would you put your kids in a 1995 Ford Escort Wagon? It wouldn't be a daily driver, maybe 1-2 times a week, IF that. Both kids are RFing.
We were *supposed* to get a car with out tax return but we're getting $2k less than what we thought so that's not going to happen.
My mom has an Escort that's just sitting and needs to be inspected, only like 80k-something miles, that she said if we do a tuneup on, we can have.
But I'm kind of weary being so old.
Any insight?

We had a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon and it was so sad when it couldn't be revived anymore (getting close to 300,000 miles on it). I loved that car. I never had a problem with getting 2 car seats in it. Never had to try 3.

Well this is good to hear because it would save us a lot of money :)
I guess we'd run into a problem whenever we FF the kids...but that's a long time down the road and we'll probably have a new car by then.

If you're wondering about the possibility for retrofitting top tether anchors for eventual forward facing harnessed carseat installations, Ford has a free tether anchor retrofit program covering parts and labor for U.S. owners of retrofittable Ford models, Ford Program R7C. You'll need to refer the Ford dealership service department to the Ford Program R7C for details of the free program and it also helps to have any part number information if available to get the ball rolling at the dealership, so I'll type that up for you from the LATCH manual in a second in case you pursue retrofitting. :) According to the LATCH manual, the '94-97 Escort wagons can be retrofitted with up to 3 top tether anchors (1 anchor for each rear seating position). There are 3 weld nuts in the cargo area ceiling and the Ford top tether anchor retrofit part number is F7CZ74613D74-A. The weld nuts are accessible for retrofitting if you remove the trim plugs using a flat-head screwdriver.

I'm currently driving a 99 Ford Taurus Wagon. Up until October I was driving a 1998 Ford Escort.

Neither have been my first choice, but they were both free. I really was devastated when my Escort up and died :(
