We talk about child safety all the time. This one was at the other end. kinda. or other species!! A guy on a motorbike passed Cooper and I on our walk today and what do I see on the back seat?? A DOG!!! that's right he had a dog harnessed to the back seat of the bike with little sunglasses on. I had to laugh. How the heck is that safe? Leave the dog at home!!!!
some people.........

anyway, just my :twocents:

I saw someone today with their child straped into a bike seat with no helmet... They had really nice bikes, shoes, clothes, and a nice bike seat, but couldn't spend the extra $15-$20 to get their child a helmet....

I live in a "biker town" and although uncommon, it's not rare to see dogs on bikes. Usually they are in a milk crate/box/ect. and harnessed in. There was one in a side car. All wear goggles. The canines seem to love it. :)

Oh I can top all of those...

One of my co-workers routinely took her 3 year old daughter riding on her motorcycle. On the highway. She'd sit her in front of her.

She did have a helmet on.

Also, it's perfectly legal in our state.

I'm hoping she quit - last time I talked to her she was upset because on the ride home that weekend (on the HIGHWAY at 65 mph) her daughter kept falling asleep, and she kept having to pull over to wake her up.

I was so very, very horrified. This woman clearly loved and adored her daughter - I can't imagine what she was thinking!

Wow. This is definitely an example of legal NOT equaling intelligent.

I have a sick feeling in my stomach after reading this.

Well, we came home from a bike ride last summer with DS#2 (1 1/2 y.o. at the time) riding without a helmet behind me. He started the ride with one, but kept taking it off, pulling the little spacer things out of it, sprinkling them on the road, hitting me in the back with the helmet, etc. I finally collected all the pieces and hung the helmet off my handlebar for the rest of the trip. Went a lot better, but I guess we looked like delinquent parents too...

I swapped the bike seat belts for a 5 point harness off of an old seat temporarily while I waited for BELL to send me new ones

I saw something similar the other day, only the little girl was behind the driver. She did have a helmet on, but I was still horrified. I would be livid if anybody took my kid out on a motorcycle like that!

When we lived in Egypt, we used to see whole families on scooters on the Autostrade (the big highway). The dad driving, the mom usually sitting side-saddled, a baby in her arms, and another child or two attached somehow. We saw this quite frequently...

I remember being young (probably 4-ish) and sitting on the motorcycle tank with helmet on and my dad driving. Never on the highway. My DH remembers doing the same thing when he was a kid.

But, now that both my DH and I own bikes I can't imagine doing that with my kid. DH has been tempted though (he won't do it). My poor bike just sits in the garage collecting dust.

i saw a motorcycle with a sidecar a couple weeks ago -- dad driving the bike, mom with little girl about 5 on her lap in the sidecar. The kid was the only one wearing a helmet (we're in NH, where it's legal to be a dummy) -- but one quick stop and mom would have been head injured or had no teeth left because the kids head was right there. Anyhow, the kid could barely hold the helmet up.
