Frontier vs Argos, which do you LOVE?

:mad: Last night I had a giant flat tire fiasco, my four kids and I were stranded, finally when a family member could pick us up I had to fight and struggle in snow storm to fit DD's rfing seat into the family members car :mad:

Ive decided to temporarily have her ffing until we are able to get a second vehicle with our taxes. The stress of constantly worrying if her seat can fit into other vehicles is enough to drive someone insane! Last night was my breaking point  Im sitting in the blowing snow repeatedly jam her seat into my father inlaws car with 4 kids crying because they didnt want to leave our vehicle at the McDonalds  I ended up having to just switch everything over to the ffing set up so we could just fit in the damn car and leave! It was seriously one of the worst nights Ive had in a long long time.

It seams I go through this every.single.time I actually get to leave the house (minus the being stranded) :( My close friend that I ride with is bigger so the car seat is really far back, there are also seat covers that cover the center belt so I cannot put dd's seat there. Her niece has her seat set up on the passenger side. Im just seriously sick of being a hassle to everyone around me that does me a favor by driving 10 miles out of their way to pick dd and I up

So thats the lowdown of why Im beyond discouraged right now :( Hopefully all of our tax info will be here soon so we can file and start our search for a vehicle because I dont know how much more carseat swapping I can handle. I cant even leave our seats in our one vehicle because dh needs the space for co-workers and tools :(

DD2 is 27 months, has a 12 1/2 inch torso, weighs around 27lbs naked and very leggy. Would you choose a FR85 or Argos for her?? Id also love to see your kids with similar stats in these seats if you would like to share pics :D

Right now she has a RXT but thats a beast and finicky in some vehicle so Id like something else. I also have a brand new RA55 sitting here but I dont like how shes so squished in that so its going back this week.

I'd go with the FR85. It has a nice natural recline and fits littles better. I'm not fond of the Argos, the harness is just odd to me. Plus there is head slump with it, at least for my DS. He has never had head slump in the Fr85.

Argos bc you dont really need the harness height of the fr85. That being said, I adore the lbp installs with the fr85. So easy!

This was ds3 at 18mo, 25lbs, 34", with about a 12 1/2-13" torso in an original FR and a GN if it helps at all:

Unless you're in a car where the belt isn't long enough... which happens quite often. :p (I have NOT had good experiences with the evil FR85. If you can't tell. :p)

My 6-year old cannot buckle himself in the Argos that uses the new Graco buckle system. The straps also tend to be twisty. He hasn't had a problem buckling himself in a Frontier 85 for the last couple years. Other than that, they are both very good combination seats overall with different advantages that will appeal to different parents.

We have the old style buckle in our GN and I have about the same opinion on it :thumbsdown::mad::(:thumbsdown:

It's so big and bulky that it always flips down under his butt. Then, he has to get it out, this always takes time...He can do it up, but can not undo it. He's been able to undo his RN/MA for a good two years now. The chest clip gets stuck sometimes and then I have to go around and help him. It's just annoying and unnecessary. NO idea why Graco can't use the traditional style buckles on their seats!??

I dont see any sense in keeping the RA just to ff in. She has absolutely no leg room rfing so I will not end up using it that way. Id rather just return that now to get a full refund and buy something she will get a ton of use out of. :D

Fr85 is a beast, and can be quite a finicky install as well. I'd definitely go with an Argos.

I completely agree with Aurezalia. I HATE HATE HATE my FR85. It takes me upwards of 30 minutes to install the danged thing in my car. Due to the shape of my vehicle seats, the recline block (which, remember, must be forward when in harness mode) will slowly slip down and off the vehicle seat. It's a complete PITA to install and get acceptable. My belts are also a smidge too short ( talking like, two inches  )to do LBP install. It's also a PITA to install in the kids' dad's truck. I hate the thing.

I've never installed an Argos, but it's pretty much the GN's twin, yes? Just a higher weight limit and the harness rethread thing? In the last four years, I've come across one situation where the GN didn't install (which, coincidentally, was today). The only reason it didn't install was because it was a third row seat with rigid belt stalks. The belt stalks weren't far enough over, so it was deemed incompatible.

I love my GN. It installs in seconds. Literally.

So, I'll have to say Argos. :)

I mean, maybe it was a problem with the individual seat itself, since we're talking about the same one :p but I hiiighly doubt it. I had the same problem, with the stupid recline block meaning the Frontier has to sit on the vehicle seat really strangely. It's stupid. And that's my professional opinion. :p

If you're moving it around a lot, maybe consider something lighter and more portable. The GN is a beast imo. And heavy. Maybe one of the new Evenflos. The one install I did on a FR85 was easy peasey and it didn't seem overly heavy to me. But that was a year ago and it was my only time touching one.

For something with easy installs and that is going to be moved around a lot, I'd get a Maestro. :duck:
