When will a nb generally fit in a britax new gen seat?

Title says it. Just wondering when an average nb generally starts to fit without the need of buying the infant insert thing.

It probably varies a little bit based on torso height, of course. My DN fit in the BV70 w/o the foam infant insert w/ the headwings on the 2nd from bottom position at about 9#.

I have seen a few average sized NB in them and they fit well even without the foam.

Sent from my iPhone, please excuse my typos.

Oh gosh, more options! When pg with DD in '08 I was under the impression that Britax convertibles were never suitable for newish babes. Now thanks to this thread i'm thinking I could put new babe in DD's TF until she's big enough for a Britax....

Sorry to derail the thread, but are infant inserts available for all of the 70 lb series?

There is one insert that works for all the next gen seats (so RA55, MA70, BV70, etc.). There isn't any insert for the old, classic seats.

I don't know if this is helpful, since I don't know if my seat is considered new gen or not, but I have a Roundabout 50, and my 7 lb newborn was too small for it. I had him in a bucket seat till his shoulders could finally reach the bottom harness slot, and that didn't happen till he was a few months old. It didn't come with an insert.

The roundabout 50 is not one of the "next generation" convertibles. :)

The RA50 is based on the "classic" convertible shell, so the bottom slots are much higher and it's not compatible with the foam infant insert.

Even the new next gen seats don't come w/ the foam infant insert; it's sold separately. Some of them do come w/ a body pillow type of insert, but that only helps with side support and doesn't make the harness height fit any differently.

My 20.5" newborn had the bottom slots about 3/4" below her shoulders with the insert at birth. She may have fit without the insert, but I didn't try, because the oter benefit of the insert is that it increases the internal recline by about 10 degrees, sort of like how the CCO insert works. So if you install the seat at 37.5 degrees, the baby is still just over 45 degrees, which is nice.

Also worth noting that you have to take the insert out at 11 lbs.
