2000 Honda Odyssey and UAS

I just recently purchase a used 2000 Odyssey and so happens that I don't feel confident enough using the SEATBELT for my son's ChildSeat.

So happens that the 2000 edition doesn't come with UAS (Universal Anchorage System). It's a pair Anchor Bracket on the crack of your chair. Mainly in the Second Row or Third Row of your Odyssey.

I know for a fact that the 2001 seats do have it.

The question I have is does the 2nd row seat for a 2001 Odyssey fit my 2000 Odyssey?

Just in case somebody is wondering why all this trouble about a seat. Well, to make a very long story short. Those Anchor Bracket is not available for my Odyssey. It doesn't even show on the Dealer's Parts Catalog. I'm working with the Service Manager @ the dealer near home and getting this issue resolve.


Unless there's another way for me to get this issue resolve.
It's the safety of my son is I'm more concern about.

My recollection is that someone at Odyclub investigated this a while back and told me that the 2001 seats would fit, but that buying a seat is extremely expensive. Basically you have to order a lot of parts and then assemble them, too:-(

The seatbelt system is just as safe as the UAS/LATCH system, provided you can get an acceptable fit with the seatbelt. If you are having problems with the install, I would definately recommend seeing a certified technician for an inspecion before spending a significant amount of money on new seats that may or may not fit once you have assembled them.

According to the experts, installing carseats with LATCH is no safer than installing with the seatbelts, it's just more convenient and goof-proof.

My suggestion would be to have the Honda dealership replace the seatbelts in your vehicle. It will be cheaper than purchasing a seat for a 2001 Ody. Plus, if the seatbelts aren't safe to install your dc's carseat with, they aren't safe to restrain you or any other passengers in an accident either.

Personally, if it were possible for my family financially, I'd have the seatbelts replaced any time I bought a used car from someone I didn't know, and I'd replace them every 5-10 years regardless just to make myself feel better! (-:

Lucky for us, we knew loads about the vehicles we purchased when ds was born (got rid of our old hunk o junks!)
