2012 compliance & boosters

What has changed with boosters to require 2012 compliance? What about backless boosters? I'm hoping the CT Apramo will stick around. Not everyone has a Walmart, but everyone has a Canadian Tire, LOL. I've been recommending that booster quite a bit.

Sorry if this was covered somewhere else, I did a quick google search...

Until the change in standards boosters in Canada didn't have to be dynamically tested. Now they do. There are knee excursion requirements and a few other things included - I don't remember them all off the top of my head right now.

But that is the big change. FMVSS does require dynamic testing, so our boosters available here were already being dynamically tested - but I'm not sure if our injury measurement parameters are the same as FMVSS 213.2 or not.

Thanks Trudy!

So what does this mean for the boosters that are in the stores now? Do they all have to go, the same as the harnessed seats? I haven't noticed any frenzied clear-outs of boosters.

Most stores have clearanced them already. There's no visible difference between old and new boosters. Some manufacturers have potentially been certifying boosters to the new standards for over a year now - I really don't know when every booster was switched over.

At work I think only one of the Graco backless and the Evenflo big kid got down to clearance pricing, everything else sold out while on sale and the booster shipments came in pretty much while the old stock was being sold. There was a short period with less selection, but booster selection has been so bad this last year anyways that I don't know that it was that noticeable to customers.
