Convertible Seat for Toyota Matrix

Hi, I have been a long time lurker on this forum and have learned a lot of really good information!

I need help finding a convertible carseat for my DS who is 5 months old, 27.5inches, and 17 lbs. Most of his length is in his torso. He is currently riding in a Britax Chaperone and there is not much room for the front passenger! I am wondering if there is a seat that would allow the front passenger seat to not have to be totally upright?

I am not concerned about the price, but would like something that is reasonably easy to install if possible. Would like headwings and a comfortable seat as we travel long distances by car regularly and DS likes to sleep in the car (so far!).

TIA!!!

Glad you're posting!

Nearly anything will take up less room than the Chaperone. It's a huge seat. At five months he doesn't really need a newborn angle anymore, so when you sit a convertible more upright, you should gain inches and inches of space.

I'd look at the Diono RXT (potentially with the angle adjuster) and Maxi Cosi Pria. Those are the only two seats I know of that would fit a five month old and have headwings.

If you're ok with a comfortable seat to sleep in, or comfortable head support for sleeping, but not necessarily wings, you could add on the First Years True Fit (though it only rear faces to 35 pounds) and Evenflo Triumph 65 and Evenflo Momentum.

There is no side impact testing, so we can't tell you if the wings even help. Everything the companies say is marketing.

Go try baby out in different seats in the store. BRU and TRU and specialty stores will let you try seats out in your car.
