Question about rear facing limits

My dd is 4 1/2 and rear faces in radian xtsl. She has surgery a few weeks ago and has full casts on her legs.
She is 30lbs by herself and 44 with casts. Do I allow her to stay rear facing or do I turn her around?
We have a britax hippo seat for her- but I hate that seat almost as much as she does...

Turn her. The seat doesn't know the casts aren't part of her body. :p

Eta: I thought you meant rf'ing in the hippo. In the xtsl I'd be fine with it, maybe weighing her every couple of days.

That is what I thought :( she doest have much trunk, or head control, and when ff she complain her bottom hurts :(
I guess we will pretty much just stay home until they are off.

I kind of started thinking about it.. The radian rear faces to 45lbs...so even though she is within 1 lb with casts- I think the supporting her is a benefit that I believe outweighs the risk of the issues caused by turning her forward.
Am I wrong in this thinking?

No, at 44 lbs I would be entirely comfortable rear-facing her in the Radian. She is within the weight limits. I don't think it's necessary to worry about being "close" to the weight limits. I would only turn her if she goes over.

Yeah, 44 lbs. is 44 lbs., and the limit is 45. she may go up a lb. if she has a big meal I suppose, but she'd still be at 45. I'm entirely comfortable with that... How long will she have the cast?

On the other hand,

She is well within the acceptable range of age & weight to FF.

Personally, I'm a bit nervous butting up against the max weight limits.

If her bum hurts forward facing, it could be that she needs more support for her legs/casts. An under inflated exercise ball, a foam cooler, pillows or towels could provide the support she needs for her torso and her legs.

If she needs additional support for head/trunk control, you should also be looking into a special needs seat for her, although at 30 lbs, she probably has some time in the Radian. Where is she at height wise in the seat?

If this is short term I'm very comfortable being that close (there is a BIT of wiggle room built into limits, although we don't know how much, but for sure at least the difference between a naked and clothed/shoed child, so.) If it's longer term, like more than 2 months, I'm not that comfortable unless you plan on weekly weigh-ins. Which is why it would be helpful to know how long. :)

With broken limbs, surgery, hip trauma, etc. I'm much more comfortable rear-facing than forward- when possible, in general, because the limbs are so much more protected rear- than forward-facing, you know? But it does become an issue if she's going to be casted so long you have to worry about growth.
