Unlatched Frontier XT as a booster

I KNOW I have asked this before but would you feel ok with a FR used as a booster unlatched? I have no latch in my truck and DD is pretty much even with the harness now. I have a turbo too but I feel that the FR gives more protection than the turbo. My back seat is small and the back door are only about an inch from touching the seats as it is.

I drive a 96 explorer.

As long as it is always buckled when not in use, I wouldn't hesitate to use it unlatched. :)

Since you have a TB already I think I would use that. :)

It's much lighter, easy to use, and tends to fit kids great.

Just wondering if you've tried the FR in booster mode yet. I had to use it with my son one day in a pinch and it didn't fit him well at all. The seat was too deep and caused him to slouch so the belt was up on his stomach. He's not small either. 53", 75lbs. I've seen pics of other kids using it, so I know it's a good booster. It just doesn't seem to work for him :shrug-shoulders:.

Personally, I think I would use the Turbo.

Has anyone tried the new Dino booster? Or would it be the same issue of being
"too heavy"
Would she be hurt we were to be in a accident with a unlatched booster? Would the force be too great?

No, I don't think I'm in the camp that says a heavy unlatched booster is dangerous, but I'm also not in the camp that thinks it's fine, either. Certainly I don't think a child would benefit by having a 20+ lb object load behind them on impact, but whether it would cause injury isn't something I know for sure. We aren't privy to that kind of info. We know that manufacturers such as Clek and Britax who both offer heavy boosters say going un-latched is fine. Ultimately, many of us allow our intuitive side to peek through on this issue though, and while I can't speak for everyone, I will admit to thinking latched is probably preferable for the heaviest of boosters. And when that can't happen, a lighter booster, especially if one is readily available like in your situation, is the direction I'd go. :)

My personal opinion is the diono is too heavy to use unlatched. I would and have used a frontier unlatched.

Just so OP isn't confused, I think you're meaning the new Diono convertibles, right? But not necessarily the Diono Monterey? :)

I checked and the Frontier is about 20lbs, the Monterey is about 15lbs, and the RXT is just under 25lbs.

Yes the new radians, not the Monterey. I shipped an XTSL and it was 27lbs with box and all. So that sounds about right. I really like the Monterey as a booster. I'd prefer to latch it but in my case I have no latch.
