Anyone know how to tell if my new seat is compliant?

Hi
I just got a amazing deal on a graco nautilus. $159.98!! Reg $259.99. Dom sept 9 2011. A sticker on the box says do not use after 10 years. Wow. Seriously? How can a harness last 10 years etc.. Btw I am in Canada but I'm sure you guys can still help me out. I was holding out for the frontier but it's still $300. And I'm not stuck in the britax bubble like I used to be. :). I re rearfaced my dd2 because of you guys. But she is hovering at 40 pounds with clothes now. And frankly Im not loving my radians. She is 3 years 8 months. 14 inch torso. Wears size 4t-5t.
Thanks :)

I'm not sure if there is a way to tell, short of calling Graco and asking. If you get an answer -- like a difference in the sticker or the coding of the model number or something -- let us know please?

I think its december of the 6th yr for the harness and another 3-4 yrs for the hbb and lbb but Im not postive since I dont own one.

This is in Canada. New testing standards are mandatory come Jan 1st 2012 so all old seats are being phased out and new(er) versions are coming into stores. With some seats it's hard to tell if they comply with the old or new standards -- with others, it's easy (structural changes, etc).

The 10 year bit might be to do with the revamped seat, who knows?

You might get a better answer on the Canadian section. I just noticed the GN on sale at TRU.

I *thought* that TRU had cleared out the 2011 GN awhile back, so was just wondering if it was compliant, or not, but noticed that it said the seat was "from 20-65 lbs". I was wondering if it was a typo or 2012 non-compliant seat.

One of the easy ways to tell if a seat is 2012 complaint is if it says 22# for FF. There is way more to it than that, but it's an obvious tell-tale sign.

So, check your seat and see what the minimum weight is, that may answer your question. If it's the TRU sale seat, I'm curious too!? LOL

The only way to guarantee it is if you phone Graco and/or it actually says something about it in the manual...

BTW there were some $60 GN spotted at 2-3 Zellers stores, so if it's not too late, may be worth phoning to see, just in case!

Oh and I had to put it together because ds2 was do happy to get a new seat. Haha. The manual says to used at a minimum 22 pounds. The tag on the store model was 20 pounds but it was a Dom of 2010. Mine is only 2 months old! It also has the new buckles and a huge crotch belt pad. I took a pic. What do you think?

Oh and it states it conforms to cmvss 213 with harness and 213.2 without harness.

Booster mode is age 4-10.
It also says to keep your child in a harness as long as possible.

All Graco seats made after mid-year this year have 10 year expirations. For the new Nautiluses I believe it's still six years for harness and high back, but ten for the backless. Their Smart Seat is 10 years, and always has been, the My Rides and Turbos are going to 10 years. So I completely believe that the box says 10 years, and that means you got a smoking deal on a seat that's barely a few months old.

My Zellers is old too, never know, to save $100, I made several phone calls...

The fact that the seat is only a few months old and that it says 22# certainly suggests the possibility of a 2012 compliant seat, which is well worth finding out b/c you can sell and/or loan 2012 seats out, but apparently, you can not sell/loan/give away non 2012 compliant seats. Not sure if/how that would be regulated, but I'm the paranoid type and would be worried that'd be the day they check CL! LOL

The $160 black GN is VERY tempting to me, still kind of debating a FR, but ODS is now in our spare GN and I'm liking it so far...it's such a hard choice!

This thread really needs to be moved to the Canadian forum -- the "compliance" question is unique to the current Canadian mess re January 2012. JMHO

I'm now jealous of Canadian's new standards. (Even if it would mean less cover options.)

I contacted Graco about the new 10 year expirations and they said it was only for backless boosters.

Your seat *is* compliant with the new standards. Prior to the change the minimum Nautilus ff'ing weight limit was 20lbs. So anyone who owns a 22lb minimum Nautilus has one compliant with the new standards.

Thank you! Then this truly is a super deal! I wonder why they marked them down so much if they are the compliant ones? Hehe don't tell them :)

I've seen them on sale to this degree before when they weren't on clearance. We should be starting to get close to the point of having enough regular stock available again that sales will soon be just sales and not clearance. Sometimes sales are big discounts - the Chicco travel system used to go on sale for $100 off quite regularly.
