Cosco Scenera for plane trip?

DH is going to Michigan in September and we are considering letting DS fly with him. I called the airline and put a 24 hour hold on the ticket and we will decide tonight. He's 3 1/2 and I was wondering if the Cosco Scenera is FAA approved for the flight? I would rather not send him in his MA in case they make him check it. Has anyone encountered any problems bringing a carseat on the plane for a 3 1/2 year old? I figure I can buy a large duffle bag for DH to carry the Scenera around in the airport and get an umbrella stroller for DS to ride in at the airport. I don't trust the airline to check my new Chicco C5.
Thanks in advance for the info/suggestions!

The Scenera is FAA approved. The airline should not make him check the seat as long as you bought a ticket for your son. He is absolutely allowed to use his carseat in his seat. :)

I wouldn't send the Marathon, anyway. It is too heavy to drag through the airport (unless you roll it on a luggage cart or GoGoKidz). :) The Scenera is a great travel seat.

Just did it... no fun! If Nolan still fit in a Scenera, then I think it would be a great seat for plane travel.

Ditto, a spare Scenera worked great for us for a recent trip instead of lugging DD2's Blvd. along with us. Our only gaffe was accidentally leaving the Scenera behind in the airport parking structure when we arrived back home.
