Question Booster Belt Guide Question

***Discalimer. I am posting about using a Canadian booster in the US. This is illegal.***

Is it absolutely mandatory to feed the belt through the guide clips on the Oto? The buckling situation in my Civic is a nightmare. Here is a pic.

Fit without the belt in the guides.

And without a booster altogether.

I'm not that familiar with the Oto, but it seems to me that if the belt is not threaded through the belt guides, the booster could seriously slip out of place in a crash, causing - well, who knows what. Maybe just extra slack in the belt, or maybe submarining. I wouldn't use it without the belt threaded through the guides. :twocents:

ETA: I totally understand the tough buckling situation - we have 3-across (including a boostered kid) in a Ford Escort. Fun!

One of the concerns TC had in their testing was with LATCHed boosters, because the child could go forward, off the end of the booster, then drop down and end up with a belly belt. With the belt not through the belt guides, I can see a similar situation but in reverse - the booster shoots forward out from under the child, then the child drops down and ends up with a belly belt.

PS, this forum is not private at all.

Well, I meant brand new to the site people wouldn't see it. Don't you have to be around for a nit to gain access to CMC?

I just logged out to check, and I could see everything in Carseat Chat.

Good to know. I don't know where I got that from then.

You do have to be around for a little bit to get access to CMCB, Community Member Coffee Break. This forum is public. I tested by logging out, and I could still see it.

This is in car seat chat and is public. For privacy it would need to be moved to the community forum or that other one in there.

I think the lap belt is too high without the booster and even without the belt guides. I'd like to see a picture with the belt guides in use.

:yeahthatsad:

I don't think the booster even fits him the way it's being used.

I also have a very difficult (impossible?) boostering situation in my Civic. So I sympathize.

I just ordered a Nania High Ride off of ebay. Crossing my fingers this will be our solution!

If not I will move him back to the middle in the Oto and fight with buckling him in and him climbing over seats every.single.ride. Blah.

He was sitting funny in that pic. He was in a bad mood and not being cooperative.

My older kids don't have a problem with the vest- they just say it's uncomfortable for long rides. After it's been done up once, you only have to put it in one belt guide and buckle the seat belt to do up after that. It's easier to buckle than a booster in a tight squeeze.
