Opinions on the carseat coat

The first one linked looks like it would likely be too bulky, especially around the crotch area and especially for a small baby.

The car seat poncho is fine, as there is absolutely nothing between the child and the seat and nothing between the child and the harness. The maker is a member of this site, CarSeatPoncho. I made my own version for my kids this year.

I wouldn't do the "car seat coat" as it's expensive, awkward, and a well-fitting, one-piece fleece suit would accomplish the same thing without drafts and gaps. Plus it would be hard to get it fitted right so there wouldn't be extra fabric bunching up around the kid.

I agree with An Aurora. You could buy a Columbia Fleece. I make car seat ponchos for my kids, I don't even sew them, and they work great. :) If you want pics, I can take some in the morning.

I have the Colombia fleece and Northface ones. (They are all jackets, not full body). I guess it'll work out OK. And this year I have Carseat ponchos to go over them (except for the baby). Love those!

But even the fleece jackets makes it more difficult to buckle, and downright tricky with the baby. I know they are probably the best option, but it's still bulk. Not as easy as summer at all.

I wish we lived in Arizona, lol.

I buy the columbia fleece suit for the babies after they are out of a bucket. We use it with a poncho.

ETA we live in northern MN. With my youngest they didn't have one that fit at birth, so I bought a fleace set in NB size at JCpennies. Just throw the 2nd top blanket piece away. That thing is dangerous to use.

FYI Columbia jackets tend to be short and wide. My kids are tall and thin so they don't fit very well. The North Face ones are cut longer and narrower IME.

Sorry to bump a thread a few days old, but I would love to see some pictures of the no sew ponchos you made! I would like to make one for DS and seeing one already made would help me (I am a visual person). Thanks

I dont know if you plan on wearing your baby or not but is you do then you could put baby in that to get in and out then you could just put your coat around the baby. And use a hat and blankets in the car.

I do plan on wearing. I was just wondering about options. I am looking for a hooded fleece sleeper to use. It shouldn't matter if it's a size too big eh? I'll only need it for a couple months, I'm due in Feb. Then I can fit it over regular clothes. I do plan on using blankets and such, but It is just so cold in Feb and March!
