I just came across this msnbc article and TOday video (embedded) in article.

I'm not surprised at the comments:
crash can jerk child's head, causing spinal cord injuries
It's things like this that have made us such an over cautious people! I mean, next they're going to say that they have to be 5, then 10, etc, etc. All the while parents run around like Chicken Little afraid of every little thing that goes on, turning people more and more neurotic about SAFETY! I'm not saying I don't care about safety, I have four kids from 9 months to 11 years old. But let's get some common sense! Makes me wonder how I survived my childhood in the 70's. Meanwhile, child seat companies are getting richer....

While I do not question the technical and medical validity of these statements and recommendations, I have but one question.
Do any of the folks who studied this have small children? Have they tried to keep a squirrely, anxious, and frustrated 18 month old rear facing?
I am sure there will be posters who said they did this and were successful at it. We weren't. I think we turned our youngest around at about 14 months or so old and the only reason we were able to wait was because he had his older sister keeping him company.
As to keeping a 6th grader in a booster seat? Are they kidding?

Good luck trying to get your 12 year old to ride in a booster seat. Really, who comes up with these ideas?
