canada wide or ontario car seat programs info needed

I wondered if anybody knew of any programs in canada in ontario to get free or reduced cost carseats. The infant and child safety association used to do it locally to me, but they lost their funding and no longer do. I have a just turned 10 month old who is in need of a convertible car seat, she is 24lbs and tall not sure how tall though.

We currently have no income and typically travel 3-5 times a week in cars, with a suport worker who drives us places and someone who drives us to church...and realized we couldn't buckle dd into her carseat and when weiged she was over the weightlimit(her snugride passed down from her sister is only good till 20lbs 26 inches.)

Alternatively we would be happy to make use of a carseat from a family here who has one not needed anymore, but that is a bit more local as I would be limited to anybody who had one who didn't need it in cambridge kitchner waterloo, or could get to hamilton or toronto on the bus.

I have called my community outreach worker who helps with finding resources but they don't have any options for us since the infant and child safety program closed. I have called the police and fire department, and public health. I ahve called social services(welfare) and local salvation army and churches without any luck .
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

I'm surprised to hear that social services aren't willing to help. I'm pretty sure here in NS all parents receiving support are getting funding for car seats too, but I'm sure that changes from place to place. I'd suggest trying them again. If you don't get anywhere with them you could try the Infant and Toddler Safety Association. They're in Kitchener and while I make no assumptions about them having seats to give away they may know which direction to send you in.

Thanks. The infant a child safety association lost there funding, I found out they lost funding last year and have just recently given away the last of their remaining seats, and they have no ideas for me on where to find a low cost/no cost one.

It's a typical problem we have with fundings either not available or cut for such things like carseats. But I wonder if you can talk to your case worker to cover the retail cost of the carseat if you have to buy one, since you can't have ITSA giving you free seats anymore.

Good luck.
