RF FF what whould you do?

I have read in so many places how the FPSE is so short compared to the RA and kids will last longer in the RA RF. I can see it FF since the shoulders can be above the top slots...but rear-facing my 21 month old has no extra room in the RA. Her shoulders were a bit more than 2 inches above the middle slots on the FPSE (the FP limit for RF), and her head was about an inch from the top. Hoping to keep her RFing in DHs car I switched her to the RA RF. Well, her head is within an inch of the top of the shell. I even took the cover off to make sure I wasn't losing my mind...I know I can continue using the RA rfing since Britax allows it where FP doesn't, but don't most of you still like the 1 inch rule vs. the top of the ears level with the shell? Should I give up and turn her FFing?

Anyone have both these seats and find their kids fit in them differently?

Hi,

I'm personally not sure how I feel about leaving my son rf'ing until the ears are level with the top of the seat like Britax allows, but I personally have no quams about leaving him rearfacing until the top of his head is even with the shell of the seat. He is in a MA as his main seat, but I do use the RA now and again. His head is less than 1" from the top, but not yet even with the top. I say it's fine.

I'm actually planning on turning my dd forward when the top of her head is even with the top of her RA. I totally don't feel comfortable with Britax's new rf height limits, but I know that with a snug harness, she should be OK until she reaches the top.

Right now I have her seat braced against the front seat, but I think I'll move her (van) seat further back from the front seat when she gets closer to the top.

Thanks! I just don't want to turn her FF just yet-hoping to wait til she goes to preschool in 16 months... I think the top of the head even with the shell seems reasonable. We have actually been using DH's car more often with the kids these days. Nice to have 2 family vehicles-lol! SHe doesn't have much leg room compared to when she's in the Sienna, but doesn't seem to care. Now I just have to order new straps for the RA, because I hate the puzzle buckle, and the straps twist through the seat back (not at all through the buckle-weird huh?)

Julie-I have decided I can't stand the Next Step. I like that it fits well in the Outback, and will fit 3 across when number 3 is born, but I never realized just how spoiled I am from FP and Britax straps...
