beco gemini

Anyone have a beco Gemini and care to share about your experiences? I have a butterfly 2 that I used a little when DS was 2 and am now using with my 3 month DD, but I came across the Gemini and liked the idea that she could face out eventually. I'm dreading the thought of the bjorn. Thanks!

I haven't used the gemini, but I've used an angelpack since DD was 4 months. She's 1 now. She's used to facing in and doesn't know anything else, so I don't think it's neccessary. Plus, I like what facing in does to reduce the amount of external stimulation. I want to be her only stimulation at this age! ;) If she had the option to face out, I'm not sure she'd ever be willing to face back in, KWIM?

FFO carry is just painful for the parent. The weight of the baby isn't distributed properly on your body so it will hurt regardless of what carrier you use. You can theoretically FFO with a MT, wrap, pikkolo... Just cinch the body with a scarf. But it will hurt and it's not very good for baby.

Have you visited thebabywearer.com forums? They're very useful.

I love my Gemini, but DS has never faced out in it. When they face out it puts their center of gravity away from your body making it hard on your back. It is also not great for hip development.

DS is 22 months and 26lbs and I wear him on my front and back no problem.

It's more that the option to face out is the excuse I was looking at to buy the Gemini. Like I said, I have a butterfly that I've been using. I really like the Paige pattern in the Gemini though and found a good deal on one. I wanted to know if people really liked it first. I don't see a reason to buy another carrier unless it offered something else. I didn't have anything other than the bjorn when ds was little, but I'm definitely doing more wearing with the second!

If you're itching for a pretty new carrier ;), you could see what you could get in a trade at frogmama.com. She buys carriers and also has good prices on new/used. :)

Ok so I think I'm going to go for it. Now to decide what print...

I'm bummed I missed the paige on swap as I really like that one. I can find some carnival ones on sale, but I'm not sure DH will wear it with the pink flowers on it :) Any thoughts?

I had a Pikkolo(I lost it. :( ) and wore DD FFO fairly often, but never for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. It did NOT hurt me or her and she loved it. When she got tired of FFO, I could easily flip her around while standing. Everyone likes to judge FFO, but there is no actual proof that FFO is damaging. If there was, there would be millions of injured/damaged children from the millions of Bjorns and Snugli's out there. I think FFO is fine in moderation.
