Well, we're now a 1 carseat family.

Only for a short time hopefully. Nicholas and I were on the way to work/daycare this morning(I work in a child care center and he goes there too) and I somehow missed the curve in our road...a road I drive on at least twice a day!

I went off road, took out a mailbox(shattering our windsheild), down in a ditch, back up, across a church parking lot and over a parking bumper--all that before coming to a stop.

The mailbox and the parking bumper are the only things I hit.

He was RF in his Graco MyRide65. It WILL be replaced. It was installed RF center w/ a locked lap shoulder belt. The EMT/Paramedic had me remove him from his seat since he was doing well. I asked about him about moving his whole seat, but he said no since it was now crashed. I did have him transported---they used a "pedi-mate" on the stretcher. When they buckled him up his harness was twisted and I had them fix it. He's fine!

My neck is sore and so is my lower back. I refused treatment...figuring I was just a bit shaken up and in a bit of shock. And I didn't want to freak Nicholas out by being c-spined and then seperated from him in the ER.

So---I'm comfortable with what I likely will need to do to have his seat replaced. But, I'm not familar with what to do and how to make sure our seat belts (driver and rear center) are replaced. I checked his belt...it is still locked. When I took mine off, it retracted fine. No airbag deployment. We're mostly worried about the undercarriage of the car.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, no help on the insurance stuff. I am glad you are okay though.

We had a similar accident almost 8 years ago when I was 38 weeks pregnant with DD. Dh missed a curve and hit a road sign. I didn't know as much then, so we didn't replace the seatbelts. Thankfully dd's car seat was still being shipped with our household goods or I likely would have still used that as well.

My husband already spoke with claims, but we'll still have to speak with the adjuster and I guess take the carseat up with that person on replacing the seat.

We'll have to go finish cleaning out the car later. One car...and one carseat...hopefully the car gets repaired quickly!

Thanks....Assuming I didn't total the car(doubt it) I need to figure out what seat to get him for a replacement. I just sold the scenera, but I didn't like it in that car anyway.

Wow, and I thought my Monday was bad. Gentle ((hugs)) and so very glad you and your DS are okay. I'd press for seatbelt inspection at the body shop to determine if it warrants replacing your in-use seatbelts. Fingers crossed you won't have any hassle with having the MyRide replacement covered but don't hesitate to cite Graco's blurb about replacing after any crash (it's probably in your seat's manual and also online in Graco's FAQs) and going higher up with a claims supervisor or beyond at the insurance company if need be for any seatbelt or carseat replacement coverage concerns.

I came home and pulled out the manual and re-read the "do not use after a crash" statement. DH already spoke with claims and mentioned that the carseat was in use and she said something about us needing to talk to the adjuster. Hopefully I'll hear from them tomorrow and know what the next steps are. I'll make sure to take the manual to work, so I can quote the manual directly.

My belt went back into the retractor and his stayed locked. The EMT told me that if I wasn't buckled, I probably would have been ejected. The speed limit on our road is 50.

Glad you guys are ok. Don't forget to keep your MR cover ;) If you seatbelt retracted then stayed locked, it needs to be replaced. You can look for signs of stress on the seatbelt in the back. Also, some seatbelts have an extra loop of belt (for driver it's near the floor) that stretches when it needs to be replaced (and there is often a tag on it that says so).

Ok, so mine went back into the retractor like it does everytime I get out of the car.

His...I unbuckled by mistake when I went to get him out, and then rebuckled...slight challenge. But it was still locked.

I don't know when we'll get up to the body shop to inspect it visually again before the weekend.
