Vent Replacing crashed seat and dealing with insurance

We were rear ended a couple weeks ago and DS was in a Nautilus. We told the other person's insurance we wanted the seat replaced. They said they would and either we could give the crashed seat to them for reimbursement or we could buy a new seat and then send in the receipt for reimbursement. We chose the latter and I have already purchased the new seat and sent in the copy of the receipt. Well we got a message today saying they want the crashed seat before they will reimburse. I am not comfortable with this and that's why I did not choose that option. I do not want the seat used or sold. I guess I can take the cover off (was going to keep it anyway) and cut the straps and write all over it that it was crashed and do not use. So aggravating, I just want my money back!

I'd do just what you said. Take the cover off, cut the straps, and write on it "crashed, do not use" Then take it to them and get your money. Most likely they just want to be sure you aren't still using it. So many people would just keep on using the seat plus get a new one (or get the money, take the new seat back, and keep the cash).

Thanks. DH called back and they said I could keep the cover. I'm still going to write on it "crashed - do not use".

Yep since they just have to say it was seized and then they dumpster if definitely write on it and cut harness for dumpster divers. If they question it just tell you you got it ready to dispose of properly before you knew they wanted it.
