Question car seat disposal

Our car seats were in a car that was involved in a collision. The car seat manufacturer recommends that the seats be replaced immediately if they are in a car that is involved in an accident, even if they do not appear to have been damaged. My question is, how would you go about disposing of a car seat. I wouldn't want to put it in a dumpster, someone could dig it out. If anyone has any suggesions, they would be most appreciated.

You can see if there's somewhere around you that will recycle them. Otherwise, cut off the straps. You can keep the covers, and sell them if there's a market for those covers. Mark on the shell, "CRASHED, DANGEROUS, DO NOT USE!" I used to live in an area that was high in Spanish speakers, so I put "No usar." or something on the seats as well, and drew pictures of dead kids. Graphic, but I wanted to get the point across. I used a saw to destroy the seat as best as I could, and tried to run it over with my car (that only scraped up the driveway, I wouldn't suggest it). Then I put the shell of the seat in a black plastic bag in my trash can. The other bits and bobs went in the regular trash.

If you have power tools, help yourself. Do what you'd like. :)

Insurance should pay for new seats to replace the ones that are crashed. I would talk to the adjuster about taking the seats. When I was involved in a collision, my insurance company took the seats from me and disposed of them for me.

I remember one insurance company that "disposed" by giving them to families that couldn't afford seats. I am happy to destroy them myself or check for a recycling program close.

:eek::eek:

Holy crap! I know mine does not do that(government run which would get them in very hot water and I have numerous friends who work there, having worked with them myself who have confirmed what happens to the crashed seats)

I can't believe that they would do that!
