Documentation on boosters becoming projectiles?

Anyone know where I can get any documentation on the fact that boosters should be buckled when unoccupied to prevent them from becoming projectiles?

I checked the boosters that DS1 is riding in in the school district's van, because I was concerned they wouldn't be a good fit (they are...*sob* my little boy is growing up!!) but there were 2 other boosters in the van that were unbuckled, a nbb and a hbb.

When I originally asked to get permission to even check the fit (after having to explain I was a CPST and this worried me, etc) I got the whole "they're the basic ones required by the state" with a tone implying "therefore they fit every child and you're really kind of being a pain and ridiculous"...so before I approach them about having kids buckle the boosters, I'd like to have some documentation, if it exists.

I did have a few mins to chat w/ the driver, and she seems somewhat receptive to having the kids buckle the boosters, but seemed worried that it was going to take a few extra mins at every dropoff, so I dont know how receptive, if at all, they'll be to this suggestion.

The Literider manual, in the warnings section says

"Never leave a booster seat unsecured in your vehicle. In a sharp turn, sudden stop or in a crash, an unsecured booster may injure vehicle occupants."

I would imagine other booster manuals have similar warnings.

Thanks ladies! Anyone have the Evenflo Big Kid booster manual handy? That's what all three of these were, 2 without backs, 1 with back.

I don't know if you feel this would be helpful, but I had a crash with an unbuckled HBB. This is how the seat ended up:

I also had a HBB in the front seat, buckled in, and it stayed put.

Probooster manual states : Restraint systems should be securely belted to the vehicle even when they are not occupied, since in a crash an unsecured child restraint system may injure other occupants.
