Congrats!!!!

How was it?

My course is Oct 4-6...starting to get a little nervous.

NAH...don't be nervous!!! Really. If you've been reading on here a bunch, you already know most of the course. Seriously. ;) It will come pretty easily to you, b/c you've already heard/seen the majority of the material here.

The course I had was the one from 2007. My instructors said that they are expecting new materials any day, but they don't have them yet. So, while we know that kids should stay rearfacing longer, etc., some of the examples we worked with and tested on didn't always reflect that. My instructors were careful to point out that while the test question asked for a specific answer (just a lame example not on my tests: 1 yr old & 20 lbs), we know IRL that rearfacing should be to the limits of a convertible seat (& if you have a small convertible seat and want to or can afford one w/higher limits to keep your kiddo rearfacing, you should do that before switching forward facing).

Quizzes were open book for us, one quiz at a time--so you don't have to remember upteen chapters of info all at one--plus there are hands on quizzes, too.

The only part that you could consider "difficult" for my class was that we had 3 instructors and about 25 or so students--that made hands-on activities and getting feedback a little tough on everyone. I was in a class w/almost all police officers and highway patrol, many who do not have kids or have older kids and have either never used a car seat or haven't in over 10 yrs. But they did a great job! (And all the officers were perfectly fine to hang out with, just in case you're in a class like I was! LOL)

They were careful to point out the newest AAP recommendations, one even said that he's thinking Tennessee law may actually change in July of next year to reflect the AAP's recommendation (minimum 2 yrs old). They were pretty up to date on keeping kiddos rearfacing, indicated personal preference to see kids stay harnessed past the bare minimums, BUT these gentlemen don't have kiddos in carseats any more and mostly only see the lowest end models. They didn't know a lot about the newer ones (and I didn't really expect that they would). They were interested in newer things.

Overall, good course. My instructors were fun and educational, and I didn't feel left out or talked down to as a non-cop. LOL

Good luck!!!!! You'll be just fine!
