Seat check at a preschool?

Has anyone ever heard of doing this? I was wondering if this was possible to arrange and who would you contact? A CPS tech, a police station? And how would the timing work, since the parents would have to be there? Any ideas?

I was concerned after seeing several kids getting in cars without boosters, and some even without seatbelts. :( And lots of forward facing little ones. I'm sure you guys see this stuff all the time, but I've just been noticing the past couple of months. And with our law being 8/80, the preschoolers should all be in a booster at the very least.

I would start w/ a local tech if you can find one. Do you have checks in your city often? I would at least ask to get some printable pamphlets for parents and ask to give them out at pre-school. It's hard to do checks there b/c many parents work etc and have other kids who need to get to other schools or picked up etc. I would've loved to do one this year as AJ was probably the only one harnessed, at least harnessed in a non-expired seat, and his class was all 3 and 4yos. I cringe at what I'll see this fall at the public school for pre-K. We have checks every month here so it might be easier (though you can't force them to go) to just pass out signs about that and hope they come to one on their own. There's also a lot of info on the web for Child Passenger Safety Week and it almost always focuses on booster and booster use. They have come great coloring pages and stuff you can print off.

My mother lives literally like 2 houses away from the school she used to pick my siblings up at when the pre-school bus dropped them off. Occasionally she would get back in town just as the bus got there, so she would always put them in their seats and drive the <100 yards home. Anyway, my point is that on some occasions there would be a police officer present to bust people who would pick their kids up and not put them in seats. Maybe you could call the local police station? and find out.

You can use the link in my signature to find your local techs -- I would contact them 1st, then present the idea to the school.... IME, some private schools are actually against it :)confused: *SIGH*) & public schools here tend to prefer an assembly instead with kids taking information home for parents to make their own appointments separately

Thanks for the ideas! When is Child Passenger Safety Week? I've done searches for local seat checks, but didn't find anything. We are not in a city and the nearest one is pretty far.

Probably putting flyers in cubbies would be good. Any basic ones that you guys know of that I can print online? We are only upstairs in the daycare area for 2 more weeks, then go downstairs into the preschool class, so I'd like to do something while we're still up here for the little ones.

I suppose it would be hard to have a seat check. I have a hard enough time taking off work for school being closed, etc. We do have a couple of local techs that are with the police department though.
