Anyone see Inside Edition?

I saw a preview for a mom being charged with baby's death. They were showing an infant car seat in the front seat, with an air bag. I did a search, and haven't found anything else.

Washington state was charging a mom. She had her infant in the front of an airbag with the seat installed on textbooks. Baby died of head injuries from the airbag. Last I heard the case was still on going but I havent looked into it for a while.

Yup, that's the one I was thinking. Montana... Washington... One of those ones at the top. It's all the same to me, LOL.

Turn on Inside Edition

They have an interview with a mom on trial for vehicular homicide (or reckless?) because she installed an infant seat in the front seat and the baby died. Should be interesting.

It is also on their web site. Good thing, since it comes on while I am still at work.

It's over on the right side of the page.

ETA: Never mind, it was just a preview for the show. Maybe it will be on there tomorrow.

True...but should it really be a homicide charge? It's reckless and certainly dangerous...but not illegal in all states

"I was not aware that it was illegal or there were dangers of putting her in front of an airbag. I didn't even know my car was equipped with airbags," Jensen says.

I don't buy that. I just don't. Isn't there a label on every car now with a big circle with a line through it and a kid in a car seat?

Sad. Definitely avoidable, with basic education or even reading the manual. But I do have sympathy for her. No doubt it was unintentional and she feels terrible. She barely even tightened or locked the seatbelt when he demonstrated how she did it. Not that it would have saved the baby.

Re: Turn on Inside Edition

According to the story on the web site, she said that she didn't know that it was illegal to put a car seat where there were air bags and that she didn't even know her car had air bags!

I am guessing she probably did not read the car seat manual or any of the warning labels clearly marked on the car seat and in the vehicle.

She also said aboout her doctor (I am assuming she was talking about the pediatrician):

"She just said, make sure you put her in the car where you see her best," Jensen explained."

If that was her daughter's pedicatrician who told her that, she needs to be informed about best practice when it comes to car seats. Unfortunately, I am sure many parents take their pediatrician's word on everything and of course they wouldn't question them, believing they know best.

It is a very sad story and she's right, it's guilt she will have for the rest of her life.

Re: Turn on Inside Edition

I think that she should be charged.. do I think she should do time? No.. I think there are other more productive ways to be of service to help this from happening again..

So sad when babies die because people don't take the time to read a manual.

I've seen a lot of cars, and never have I seen one that doesn't have an airbag sign on either the dash or the visor. Even older cars, the first ones with airbags. Sad all around, but omgosh. I don't like ignorance excuses. Especially since this was her car, the one she drives all the time, not even like it was a strange car.

In my vehicle no graphic, just text. And you need to flip the visor down to see it. And very few people read their vehicle manuals so I can easily see them ignoring text on a visor in a vehicle.

The vehicle was moving while I took the attached pic, so highly likely it's blurry!
