I was reading the University of Michigan Alumnus Magazine and read that two individuals there (not sure if they are professors or research assistants) are making a prototype for affordable carseats in poor countries.
It does not use plastic injection molding, which has high start-up costs, but available materials.
That's basically all I know so far. Interesting! It is called the M-Seat.
