FOUND.

So our Wii won't read discs any more. Does anyone have just a Wii console they are looking to get rid of?

I really don't need any controllers, games, or accessories, but might be interested depending on price. Let me know what you got and how much shipped.

Sorry I don't have a Wii for you but do have a suggestion.
Have you contacted Nintendo about it? We borrowed a Wii from DH's nephew and it ended up having the same issue.

We called Nintendo about it and they had DH drop it off(we live near a headquarters),and they repaired it for very little cost. They then shipped it back to us working perfectly.

I'd have to ask DH what it cost because I have two costs in my head. We had to do the same darn thing with the PS2 we borrowed from his nephew as well. I think game systems decide our home is the best place to die.

Perhaps worth a try though in case you don't find another one.

Bump. Now my sister's quit working . She doesn't want to send hers back because she extensively uses it for Netflix. She is debating taking our bad one and sending it in, but also wouldn't mind just buying a good used one.

Heh, ours did that. We just got it back today but found a local shop to fix it.
If anyone else has this problem, or should it occur again, it's the laser. Replace that and you're good to go. :)
