What would you do?

DS got approved for free preschool due to his speech delay. They provide transportation or we can drive him. I am not sure if the transportation is a bus or a van with car seats (will find out on the 20th). If it is a bus would you let your child ride the bus? I have no problem driving him but he would love to ride the bus and it would be easier for DH when it comes to pickup because his preschool would let out right in between my other two sons bus drop off times. this way he would for sure be home for all of them. But I kinda prefer him in his car seat. So what would you do?

Before making an official decision, contact the school and ask if there are car seats on the bus. I know all the schools districts I work with pick up the 3 & 4 year olds on a short bus with car seat. Each bus also has an assistant in addition to the driver.

If at all possible, have it written into his IEP that he needs to ride in a carseat or approved 5 point harness/vest on the bus.

My daughter, 3, got approved for the free preschool 5 days a week for speech. Oh, and she is rear-facing. If it were a van, no, I'd drive.

But she takes the bus. It's a small bus with lap belts. They gave me a harness (I requested it), but it's not approved as a seatbelt! I axed that.

Then I requested a STARS seat, and they are (I think) going to get her one tomorrow or next week. She'll be in the only kid in that, lol. But I feel safe having her there. Plus, her 5 minute ride home is 30 minutes on the bus (I guess they stop a lot). So if she falls asleep, at least she's in position.

She LOVES the bus!!!!!!!!!!

Research/bug the bus barn. I made the decision for my DD to ride the bus. It's a full length bus with the built in harness seats. My biggest problem is with aids not buckling the kids up correctly.

I had that problem with aides as well. I researched the vest that they used and trained everyone I could how to buckle it properly. ;) Then I would walk onto the bus every few days to double check Lexi was buckled properly.
