Special Needs Help, Albany GA

Hi guys, I have a friend in Albany with an 8 year old SN brother. I'm not 100% what his diagnosis is, but he was apparently in a handicapped car seat until recently when he outgrew it, and is now riding in a booster with a regular seat belt, however he won't leave the seat belt on properly, he keeps placing the shoulder belt behind his back. The family is interested in looking into the EZ-On vests, and is looking for a little more information and help. I'm not well versed in special needs at all, and far from local to help as well. Is anyone here close, or maybe even someone with SN training is willing to at least email with them and point them in the right direction as to what products may be helpful for them?

Thanks!

If you contact EZ-On directly, I believe they are more than happy to help and recommend the correct product:

At 8yo unless he is particularly tall or heavy I would think something like the Frontier85 might still fit him, but if his issues are ongoing then going for the EZ-On may the more long-lasting option.

Since I'm in Canada I've never actually met him. She said he outgrew a "handicapped seat", but was unsure as to what the seat was, just that it had been very expensive and I believe recommended by a medical professional. That makes me believe he may be too big for a Frontier 85. I'm pretty sure they will need something to last them quite a long time. I will pass on to them to contact EZ On but I know they would really like a CPST to talk to.

The typical special needs seat I am imagining they used is the Traveller Plus, I think all other SN seats are custom made and way more expensive, and would last longer, IIRC. The Traveller Plus was a modified version of the Britax Regent (or was it Husky? with added support pillows, maybe other changes) and is rated to 105lbs with top harness slots of about 19" or maybe a bit less. So if he outgrew it by height, the Frontier85's 20" top slots would be a little higher. But not really by a lot, so either way, the harness would be a better option.

I think Judi has a lot of SN experience, not sure who else or where they are. (I will PM her to ask her to check in here.)
