I tried to put a nautilus in my 99 Corolla, passenger side w/ lap/shoulder belt. The buckle came up so high I couldn't pull it tight and had easily 3 inches of forward movement. (plus graco says you need a locking clip for my belt, but it would be inside the belt path...how does that work?) Was ready to scream...at least it was just the floor model. Any suggestions. This thread says to use the center belt, but my owner's manual says outboard only, and the center belt has a double buckle, so I'd rather not.

You don't need a locking clip; all vehicles made after '97 are required to lock in some way. I'm not positive how yours lock, but it's probably at the retractor, which means you pull the seat belt allllll the way out, and that switches it to locking mode. Do you know what I mean? If not, let me know and I'll explain in more detail. :)

As for the buckle being too high, you can twist the buckle stalk (female end) up to three full turns before you buckle. That will shorten the stalk and pull it down so that it's not in the belt path. (Three full turns means you flip the buckle upside-down, and that's a half-turn; flip again, that's one full turn. You can use as many half or full turns as you need, up to three.)

Why does your owner's manual say outboard only? The middle seat is fine for installing a carseat as far as I know.

I've put that seat both center and outboard in 99 Corollas. I did have to twist the buckle stalk down but had no other issues. The belt locked at the retractor by pulling it out all the way, slowly.
