:( What do I say?

I am teaching a children's music class and today one of the moms came by to drop off her materials fee and I wanted to meet her 3 year old daughter. She turns 4 next month. She was in a booster seat.

That wasn't the problem (as much) though.

Her baby sister (11 months) was FF in a Nautilus. :(

I was so shocked I wasn't sure exactly what to say, and I don't really KNOW the woman so I wasn't comfortable saying "hey, did you know that's TOTALLY unsafe?"

It literally made me sick to my stomach.

I tried talking to a friend with a 9 month old, 20.5 pounds FF in a Nautilus the other day. She totally brushed me off.

I have had both good and bad luck with trying to talk to parents about car seats. I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut and I know that I'm too passionate about it sometimes
Its hard sometimes to know how to approach and what to say. But I keep trying and I won't stop. I figure if I can get through to just 1 parent then its worth it because then maybe that parent will tell someone else...and so on :)

Is there any way you can distribute some carseat brochures or sheets to the entire class instead of singling her out?

Is there an upcoming seat check or SK fitting station in your area? If so, you could always just say "Hey, I saw this awesome FREE car seat check coming up. I'm going to take <insert kiddo's name> and wanted to pass along the info to all my parents with littles! Here's some info that they have been giving out <hand over booklets>. It's so great that they are increasing the suggested minimums for forward facing from 1 yr & 20 lbs to at least 2 years and the max of your seat!"

Or, if you don't know of an upcoming event, you could always mention when you had your seat checked in the past and how cool that was and continue with the <blah blah> here's some material they gave me, <blah blah> new recommendations.

Gets the info out there and sounds conversational (because you're talking about YOUR seat usage rather than hers). :)
