Possibly traveling, need help deciding what to do

We are thinking of taking a family vacation to see dh's family in WA. Our youngest dd is 6, 41 lbs and not sure how tall she is. My first question is, should she be in a car seat on the plane? We have a Nautilis and a Radian XT. We have a car down there, its a Bonneville, not sure what yr. The back has a lap belt in the middle, older dd's will need the outboard positions. I need to figure out what would be the easiest plan. Dh isn't too excited about having to drag the huge car seat through the airports and dealing with it on the plane, he doesn't quite get why we can't check the seat, but will trust me on that. I don't really want to take the RN because I'm not sure how it will install in the car. I looked at the RSTV but that's not an option because there is no tether and no way to get one put in before we get there. Do we have any other options?
Thanks :)

I believe she would fit fine on the airplane seat at that age/size, but with a lapbelt only in tha car, you will have to have a harnessed seat in the car. You can either haul one of your seats on the plane with you (I would vote for the Radian, since it folds up and is narrower to get all 3 kids in the backseat of the car) or have your dh's family pick up a seat for you and have it in the car when you get there. Would anyone in your dh's family have a seat that you could borrow and know that it is a safe/non expired seat?

I don't think anyone would have seat to borrow, not sure I trust anyone to have a safe one. I guess we could take the Radian, but I'm worried that it won't install correctly, but I haven't actually had that problem with it before and I've installed it in quite a few different vehicles. It doesn't require the TT does it? This may all be a moot point anyway, I just looked up tickets and it would be $3500 for us to fly! Thanks :)
